Welcoming a new addition to the world brings so many new feelings and emotions. Of course, one of the first things to come to mind
is, "What will we name him or her?" If you are of Irish descent, this automatically means you need to research Irish baby names. In our modern world,
names have become much more creative than in past centuries in Ireland. Irish baby names are steeped in tradition.
Tradition
had it that the first born Irish male would be named after the Father's Father. The second born Irish male would be named after his Mother's
Father. The next born Irish male would be named after his Father and the next would be named after his Father's oldest brother. Confused yet? The same idea held for naming daughters. The first born Irish female would be named after her Mother's Mother. The second born Irish female after her Father's Mother. The next born Irish female would be named after her Mother. And the next would be named after her Mother's oldest sister. So much for originality! Note that this was not a hard-fast rule but was a guideline for some Irish families. After expecting our first born, I have been researching and racking my brain (and my partner's of course) for the perfect Irish baby name. I decided to compile my search into a database for online viewing of authentic Irish baby names for boys and Irish baby names for girls with correct pronunciation (although of course you may pronounce however you like) and name meaning and origin. To compile a complete list of Irish baby names might take years so I have done my best, and please email me with your favorite Irish baby names as well and I will add the names to the site.
